Hanuman by playing amrutavarshini raaga on his veena turned this dry land fertile. Hence Sri Anjaneya is seen here playing the Veena. People aspiring for proficiency in music pray to him.
People born in Moolam star believe that offering prayers here for relief from illnesses and problems will provide fruit. Praying by standing on Nava Vyakarna stone offers cure from bone and joint related diseases. They also attain excellence in Education & Speech when they pray here.
Another belief is if one were to light lamps worshipping Mother Durga in the temple continuously for 42 weeks, their prayers will be answered.
It was here that Lord Shiva and the Mother acceded to Nandi’s wishes and performed the divine dance here. Since Nandhi also known as Singhi worshipped the Lord here, the place came to be known as SIngheeswaram and the Lord as Singheeswarar.
