Parvathi Devi performed Tapas in this sthalam to marry Lord Shiva in this divine place and hence is called as "Thiru Manancheri". People pray for boon of early marraige and for children.
The story goes that when Lord was in deep tapas and Manmadhan aimed his arrow of flower on Lord Shiva, He opened his 3rd eye and reduced him to ashes; Rathi wife of Manmadhan Prayed to the Lord and got her husband back here.
Here Lord Shiva is in the form of 'Sri Kalyana Sundarar' in the Divine and beautiful 'Marriage pose' along with Ambal. While the Lord stands as bridegroom and blessing the devotees, the Goddess Kogilambal seen bowing her head with shyness.
The separated couple who want to get together offer prayers here. It is believed that special garland poojas for Gokilambal sametha Sri Kalyana sundar will get all the hurdles in marriage cleared. The garland in a small bag, keep in the pooja room. Once the marriage is fixed, along with the spouse, one should dedicate the garland to the temple; and the prarthana gets completed in this manner. After the Marriage the Couple have to visit the temple to return or dispose the Prasatham in the Temple pond.
Another speciality of this temple is offering the milk payasam towards mangala Raghu on every no moon day (amavasai) bestows with child boon.
