When one of his wives, associated with Thiruvonam star performed intense penance on Perumal, he appeared before her on a Tiruvonam star day and relieved her husband of his curse. To this day, this shrine stands associated with the Tiruvonam star.
It is a desire of all devotees to ascend to Tiruparkadal which however cannot be done in human body. To please the devotees, the worship in this temple gives the devotee the benefit of Tiruparkadal darshan, the 107th Vishnu Divyadesa. Due to the rare architecture, Instead of Sorgavasal system, there are three entrances through which Perumal can be worshipped directly at the sanctum itself on the Vaikunda Ekadasi day. .
When Maharshi Pundarika during his pilgrimage, landed at this temple at Narayana Chaturvedhi Mangalam, was shocked to have darshan of Lord Shiva in the sanctum. When he retreated with regret, he was stopped by an elderly person who told him it was indeed the shrine of Lord Vishnu. When Rishi refused to accept, he was taken to the sanctum and there stood on the Avudayar, Lord Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal and was impressed upon him Shiva-Vishnu were not different from each other. He was also told that as he could not worship Vishnu in Tiruparkadal, the darshan was offered to him here. Hence the is devotedly called Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal.
